No eclipse for me
The Blind and the Eclipse
Every time I look at a news feed, articles explain how technology is going to help blind people appreciate the upcoming solar eclipse. As if blind people like me wake up daily puzzling over this conundrum.
Maybe I missed it, but have all the other technological challenges facing blind people been solved?
With apologies to David Letterman, here is a list of 10 questions that are more important for technology to help with for blind people.
10. Did I just pour myself a glass of soy sauce? (This one is from experience.)
9. Is that guy approaching me at night carrying a baseball bat or an arm full of groceries?
8. Is this my gate at the airport?
7. Where’s my self-driving car?
6. Are there empty seats on the bus or am I going to sit in someone’s lap and have to make a new best friend very quickly?
5. Does this dress make me look fat?
4. Does that guy at the bus stop have Air Pods in or is he talking to himself?
3. Who would be a better polka partner, Trump or Biden?
2. What’s up with Mona Lisa’s smile?
1. Where is Waldo and why should I care?
Stay tuned.
Here at Ideas First, we’re working on a new podcast, tentatively titled “Bald, Blind and No BS.” My cohost and I will hash out current events and topics from distinct points of view. The response to intellectual disagreement is dialogue.
